[personal profile] ladybracknell asked for a drawing from Twilight, featuring Edward/Bella and gave the prompt "nighttime". I'm afraid this is probably very cliché but the idea wouldn't go away, and I got to try out a new technique as well that was mostly succesfull, so all is well. :D I hope you like it, my lady! *bows* (please click it for full view)

Oh and for all those of you who know [profile] binkaslibrary , I just met her briefly on chat where she told me that her town is flooded, there is no public transport and the phones are barely working. It may take a while before she is online again, so keep her in your thoughts.

Your illustration is beautiful! Love the silhouette style. Very provocatively done. The speckling is a wonderful touch. :)

Guh, sorry to hear the news about [profile] binkaslibrary. She has been effected by the weather gods this year.

Edited twice because I am handicapped today.

And Ed's Adam's apple is an attractive detail.

Is it black ink or paint?

I love Adam's apples! :D :D

It is black ink and the speckling was from splattering liquid frisket on to the paper with a toothbrush prior to painting on the ink.

The longer I look at it, the more I think it's fabulous. Killer book cover, in fact.

LOL I love to think about the little toothbrushes at your place that get used for disparate purposes like flicking and scrubbing things other than teeth.

Thank you so much! I guess it could be - it is pretty much a classical illustration. The book would have to be called "Starcrossed lovers" I think! LOL!

Yes - I am very careful keeping my toothbrushes apart. I can just hear the loving words my bf would have for me if he accidentally picked up the one used for ink... *cringes at the thought*

Oh wow, that's amazing! I love it, and I can't believe you did that in a day. The speckling looks like stars to me, and I love how it's sprinkled on them - it makes them seem really timeless, somehow, and ethereal, which is what they always should seem. Their poses are so perfect - it says a lot, I think, that we can't see their expressions, but there's still that sense of what they feel. In shallower news, I love their hair, too, lol.

Have been really ill today, and this has really perked me up, so thank you :D. It's awesome.

I'm sorry to hear you have been ill today! I hope you get better soon.

I'm very happy you like it! The new technique is a fast one, which is very satisfying.

You have picked up on a lot of the motivation behind the choices I made for this one - especially the decision to extend the starry nightsky to Edward and Bella as well, that, I agree, lends them something eternal which is probably what they will be. And I'm glad you read emotion in their poses, it can be hard to portray in silhouttes which should be kept simple. :D I anticipated your affection for hair and worked especially on that to make it to your satisfaction, so I'm grinning now that you couldn't help mentioning it! ;)

It's done in hand - by splattering masking fluid on the paper with a toothbrush, painting over it with ink and when it's dry lightly rubbing off the masking fluid revealing the white paper underneath. I love the randomness of the stars that appear. :D

Oh no - that sounds terrible! She did say it was rather chaotic down there... Well I know her house stands on a hill so I don't suppose she is in any immediate danger that way, but if they don't have water... Poor Binks

Yeah once upon a time in a galaxy far far away... I feel so old sometimes!

Had a good teacher too, we did pop art techniques, those brush techniques yo mentioned (the sieve and toothbrush made me go like whooah!), working with a kinda rubber (linoleum?), charcoal, paint, pastel painting ect ect. It's been so long, but I never quit sketching until I started college. I still kept my pencils and very boldy I bought two big art paper blocks a few months ago (Kevin has discovered 'drawing' too, so it has its uses now) to start again (Sirielle has been pom-poms shaking a lot). I am planning to make Brusjes birth announcement cards though. :) Who knows..

The infamous art-toothbrush is at a safe distance from the regular-use toothbrushes, don't worry! LOL

Oh, I love it! I love Bella's profile; she looks so classically beautiful. And Edward looks tall and thin, as he's supposed to be in the books. The Adam's apple really brings home the fact that he's still a "teenager" and adds to the gangly feel of him, and yet he seems very poised at the same time, as he should be. And am I wrong or is he holding her hands to his chest? I love the moon silhouetting them, and the speckles look like starlight. Lovely piece of work. You should post it on [livejournal.com profile] twilight_fanart. Thanks for sharing this. :D

Wow thank you so much. I'm always so happy to receive a review from you!

I'm really happy that you think that I captured the characters - as you know I don't spend as much time thinking about Bella and Edward as I do with certain other characters *cough*Jasper*cough*. :D

That is indeed one interpretation of what he is doing (and I mean no naughty implications here, just to make sure). It is deliberately a little ambiguous so viewers can decide for themselves. :D

What is [livejournal.com profile] twilightfanart? Are there other artists there?

[livejournal.com profile] twilight_fanart is a place for original art as well as icons and manips (wallpapers, banners, etc.). So far I've only seen icons and manips, so they definitely need some ART over there. Though you'd probably get more hits through [livejournal.com profile] lion_lamb. They take art, too.

I've filtered all the Twilight comms off my flist for now, though, because there are spoilers galore flooding the web at the moment. Apparently the epilogue is out there. Grrrr. :/

I know it! People can be SO immature. At least I got fair warning from one of my flisters so I was able to filter quickly. But I remember getting spammed right before the HP release and I nearly didn't click away fast enough. That person definitely deserves the angry elves. Grrr. Nope, no cut. It was posted in the HUGEST capital letters possible. The person created a fake LJ simply for the purpose of spoiling people for, as he/she said, "the LULZ." Idiot. Of course a zillion people went to his/her LJ to rant and rave, which only fanned the fire. People like that should get NO ATTENTION WHATSOEVER. That would hurt them the most. >:(

Absolutely! Ignoring them would really hurt them - all they are looking for is attention of any kind even negative... I can only imagine that people like that must be so miserable in their RL that I should feel sorry for them, only their ungraciousness leaves me completely unable to.

Sorry I'm coming a bit late to the party here, but this is so, so nice. I was interested to read in the comments how you did the starry speckles! I love the way their heads fall on the diagonal down the page. And it's amazing how intense they feel, even in silhouette; I think it's the way they are gripping each other's arms (? or Edward's clasping Bella's hands to his chest, as [livejournal.com profile] bratanimus said), and there's some real dynamism in the angles of their faces, too, especially the way Bella has hers tipped up.

I can't wait to see the other pieces you'll come up with! :)
