I love the look of Dream in this as his stance seems dead on, and strangely enough, I really like Delirium's feet.

Thank you! Dream is such a strange character, and sometimes hard to pin down, so I'm very happy you recognise him in this representation. :D And I really like Delirium's feet too....

Absolutely terrific picture. I love the composition and the faces and the connection between the two. The hair on both of them is wonderful. (I am sorry that I do not know the characters.)

Thank you so much. I'm so glad you see the connection between the two of them. I did have fun making Dream tower over Delirium that way. And I loved doing their hair as well!

If you ever feel like reading a graphic novel, I wholeheartedly recommend the Sandman by Neil Gaiman, where these two are from.

This one is really good -- I like the dramatics between the characters that you've clearly showed in the drawing. :)

Very well done!

Thank you so much! I'm very happy that you think I have shown you some of the relationship between these two - it's not always easy to catch on paper. :D

Thanks for leaving a comment.

I always love the details in your drawings. I especially loved both the characters' hair here.

Oh thank you so much! I always have fun putting in the details, so it makes me happy to have people noticing them. These characters' hair always crack me up and are so much fun to draw!

Lovely!
I like the pose you've got them both in---very appropriate for the characters. Dream looks like the tired soul he is looking down at her...

Thank you! It makes me happy that you recognize the characters. And Dream is indeed an old and tired soul...

So, yeah. I just found this today. There were a couple blank days for me with the kids...

This is excellently conceived and executed! I like Dream's incompletely colored clothing because he's always there/not there and the missing robe bottom conveys that concept. His eyes are his signature liquid black and that, combined with his hair and his posture as [personal profile] train_lindz pointed out, are essential. This is such a great replication of an iconic character.

Delirium's rocking posture is on the money, too, though, and I like the contrasting position of them both, all the while maintaining eye connect to express their connection. Her hair is marvelous, lol, that awful shaved on the bottom, long on top style that I always want to redraw when I see her.

Thanks for doing this, even though I know it's not mine but [personal profile] bratanimus's.

Tell me more about Dreams pectoral muscles, hm? Is that in the novels? :D

Well, I was counting on those few flisters who know the novels, so I'm glad you found your way here from being kid-infested. ;)

Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I loved the way the artist in Brief Lives had Delirium always moving, all whimsy and buzzing, easily distracted but still intense. So I thought she should be "in motion" even while sitting still. And I couldn't resist her awful hair either. lol! And Dream.. I'm always daunted by Dream because he is so complex. The incompletely coloured clothes was a spur of the moment sort of thing, and I'm happy that it works.

I'm sure about the pectorals, really! It cannot possible be something I dreamt... Can it?

Did you experiment with different hair for Dream? You said you had to practice in your a/n...

No, no experimentation, but it's a lot different to draw than the hair I usually do and achieving a uniform dark colour and still give the illusion of three-dimensionality (and not just a mohawk) took some practice. ;)

I like the result here, especially the little gap at that area if you were to draw a straight line from the corner of his eye to the back of his head crown.

(It took me two weeks to follow up on my note-to-self and come back here?!? Yeesh, sorry about that. But February has been kind of like that so far...)

I still haven't started reading Sandman yet, so I don't know anything about these characters, but I really like the contrast they present in this drawble: one dark and tall and straight, one light and small and curly. And the way you can see Delirium's eyes, but you really can't see Dream's.

The different textures you've used to shade different shapes are a cool effect, too.

You are welcome whenever you have time to drop by - I'm glad to see you! :D I hope your workload lets up a little though from what I glimpsed of the comments at mrstater's it didn't look likely... *crosses fingers you will soon have time to read Sandman*

Thank you for pointing out what stood out to you in this drawing. I was putting an emphasis on their postures, to contrast them as you said, and also to say something about their personalities, which you have also caught on to.

And thanks for noticing the shading too - I had fun with that.

AT LAST, coming back to look at the finished product! Thank you SO much for creating this wonderful piece, and posting on the day I gave birth to little Dylan. It's somehow very, very appropriate. :D

What I love about this piece is that I'm not sure who's comforting whom, which I always found to be the case in the novels. Dream helps to focus Delirium's wild mind, while she brings him closer to innocence. It seems that's the dynamic between a parent and child, in many ways; so again this was a perfect gift for Baby Brat's birthday. :)

Several details I love, first and foremost Delirium's hair, which makes it look as though her brain is on fire - perfect! I agree with [livejournal.com profile] duck_or_rabbit about Dream's robes fading away, as dreams always do. Delirium's childlike pose is absolutely spot on, and so is Dream's: he has that world(s)-weary posture in his body and expression on his face (which somehow manages to seem strangely alien and vulnerably human at once). His hands do not reach for her to comfort or to be comforted, but I get the sense that every fiber in his being is focused on his sister in this moment. And his hair, which you had such trouble with?, echoes Delirium's wild hair; both seem to be exploding even though this is, on the surface, a quiet moment. Technically, I love the triangulation between the two characters with a blank triangle of space between them, which gives room for the unspoken emotions to breathe between them. And I love how low and earthy Delirium is, while Dream's body seems to rise up and up and up. And yet still their eyes meet quite easily, because they share similar burdens.

THANK YOU for this very moving, eloquent piece. *bows to your talent* :D :D :D
