But first! Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful birthday greetings. I had a really great day, the sun was shining and we had icecream in the garden. :D

I was so incredibly lucky to get a birthday story from the incomparable [livejournal.com profile] ladybracknell featuring Sirus, the other Marauders, Rosmerta and motorcycles. It doesn't get much better than that! It's called Velocity Girl, and you can find it here. I encourage you all to go read it, it's perfectly wonderful and awkward. Just like Sirius. :D

And reading this story reminded me how long it has been since I devoted any spotlight to Sirius. A situation to be immediately remedied! Luckily the very same [livejournal.com profile] ladybracknell left me some great prompts in the drawble meme, ages ago: Sirius/Lily and snow.

Title: Frozen
Media: Pencil and watercolours
Warning: None!
Artist's notes: Loads of experimentation. I had fun, and I hope you enjoy.

Oh, Mother Mary, full of angst! I think Lily's face is utterly captivating! God, her hair is like a flame (that insensitive Sirius naturally ignited or put out.) And Sirius' hunch is something I'm into lately, and this is perfect.

(There are a hundred Damien Rice tunes that suit this, you know!)

You own watercolor! It is your medium, without a doubt!

ETA: I am now listening to 'Then Go' by Damien Rice because of this...

LOL - I hope you are enjoying Damien Rice. I'm not familiar with the song you mention (or more accurately, I probably know it, but I fail at remembering titles and artists ;)) I'll go listen as soon as this is posted.

Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts here so promptly! I love how Lily's hair turned out - it was the last thing I did, and I was pretty nervous when all that colour went on the paper... As you know, Sirius was wanting to be painted, though I'm not entirely sure this was what he wanted. I like his hunch too - the shoulders pulled up and in. What is he protecting?

You own watercolor! It is your medium, without a doubt!
Oh! ♥ That is my dearest wish.

Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts here so promptly!

Always. For both you and Sirius.

OK, really have to go now...

I'm chilled...in a wonderful way!
The landscape setting sets the mood perfectly, Lily's hair is exquisite, and the delicate shading on her face is lovely.
Beautiful!

Yay for being chilled in the good way!

Landscapes are the death of me, and I'll tell you, because I know you'll understand, that another version of this was scrapped because I failed at patience with those washes.... But I'm pleased with how it came out this time round, and I'm so happy it sets the mood. Lily came out just as I wanted her to, and her hair was adrenaline inducing to paint, as it was the last bit to be painted...

Thank you so much!

Ooooh - lovely! So cold, and then the flame-coloured hair and the poppy in wonderful contrast.

I showed your painting to my youngest daughter* who knows a lot more about art than I do, and she loved it! So, two fans here. lol

*) She's the one who shares a name with you as I think I've mentioned before.

Thank you so much! And to your daughter too. What a lovely name you have given her. ;) Incidentally, I just discovered today that you share a birthday with my sister. Can it all just be coincidences? *dun-dun-dun*

I loved playing with the contrast in this, making sure to have as few warm colours in the background and clothes so the red would stand out as powerfully as possible. I'm so happy it worked! :D

That is gorgeous. You can literally feel the freezing air and distance between them, how they've both turned away with their eyes downcast, and yet the way she's holding on to the flower says something else...

The movement and colour in her hair is beautiful, and I love the height and breadth of Sirius compared to her.

Oh my, thank you! There is coldness there on several levels, yet all is not frozen completely over. I'm so glad you saw that!

I love how her hair turned out too (and agonised over it even longer), and I'm happy that Sirius looks large and solid standing next to her. That is exactly how I wanted it to feel. :D

♥ right back at you!

You blow my mind, lady :)
I particularly like the stance that Sirius is standing - it's beautifyl.

Which is like beautiful but 1000x better ;)

*puts your mind carefully back together again. I need you functional for making posts and polls!*

Thank you for making up a word for this image. Sirius feels it is only appropriate considering that he is quite beautifyl! I'm really happy with his stance as well, it seems to tell a lot of story with very few effects.

My goal is to have a poll for Friday afternoon.

Maybe.

Artists always impress me. Writers, we have to write words and words and words to get our point across, and then you can do it one snapshot. :D

Oh, that is just stunning. And the palette is brilliant. The eye is so drawn to the power of Lily's hair and that poppy against a sea of subdued greys and browns and blues. It speaks so well to the emotions of the situation.

But the whole thing is exquisite, really.

Thank you so much! I wanted the palette to really set off Lily's hair, and then I left the hair to the last moment, and was suffering from sirius angst that it wouldn't work.. Luckily it did, and thank you so much for letting me know. I'm really happy you are feeling the emotions in this piece.

Thank you again, I really appreciate it. :D

This is phenomenal. I just love it. I love the image of the poppy and the way it and Lily's hair lead us into the background, just imagining what kind of encounter lead to this. Something about it makes me think it's a goodbye.

The way you've captured them is perfect - there's something about the contrast of Lily's hair with the icy landscape that really works, and I love the thought of Sirius trudging away into the snow all hunched over because of whatever happened.

Really this is amazing. Thank you so much. I can't believe it's for me :D.

Thank you so much! You give good prompts and have to risk all of the experimentations that I always want to do as a result. :)

I'm so thrilled you like Lily's hair, because it was the one thing that had to tie the whole image together, along with the poppy, because they contrast so sharply with the rest of the palette. And poor Sirius, so obviously unhappy about something. The thought of him walking off alone in the snow makes me sad, but I'm happy that is the image you see. :D The fact that the image makes you think about what went before and after, is the best compliment I can have!

Thank you again - I'm so happy you like it. :D

Thank you! You may have missed much speculation about a certain Sirius Black, though most of it is pure conjecture on the part of those of us who are his fangirls. :)

I'm so happy this evokes emotions and thoughts in you. Thank you for leaving a comment!

This is gorgeous! I love Lily's hair and Sirius's posture. And how her hair tendrils right into the river and also steals the show in this monochromatic landscape.

I'm far too much of a Lily/James shipper to really ship Lily/Sirius (though I've read some fun fics on that count, nonetheless), but there are all sorts of things they could be having this chilly confrontation over. ; ) Like Sirius telling her off for something... I don't expect she'd take that well.

Very pleased to have a look at this.

Thank you so much. I'm not much of shipper under any circumstances, and I love that you can read more than one thing into this image. I very deliberately didn't draw a unequivocal romance, so I'm glad that works. :) I have no doubt that Lily and Sirius would rub each other the wrong way on more than one occasion!

I'm happy you stopped by. :D
