Once upon a time... I offered a drawble meme. It's been nearly a year! And as the title shows I have just crept past halfway towards fulfilling the requests I asked for. FML. And also, this was supposed to be done yesterday, on the momentous occasion of [livejournal.com profile] duck_or_rabbit's birthday. Double fail.

Happy Birthday, you beautiful lady! LJ is 100% a better place because you are here. Talking with you always cheers me up, and you have been and remain a huge inspiration to me. ♥

Under the cut, please find the elusive Shadow and that wily employer of his, Mr Wednesday from American Gods. Mr Neil owns everything, naturally. No warnings and as always, please click to enlarge. :) I hope you like them, bb!

'Wednesday put on a faded pair of pink earmuffs. He closed the trunk. Snowflakes settled on his dark blue cap, and on his earmuffs.
"How do I look?" he asked.
"Ludicrous," said Shadow.
"Ludicrous?"
"Or goofy, maybe," said Shadow.
"Mm. Goofy and ludicrous. That's good." Wednesday smiled.'
(Page 111 of American Gods, by Neil Gaiman.)

And since I'm late for your birthday, have something extra: a sketch I did for your request. It probably dates back to March or April or something equally ridiculous:

In completely different news, I ran 10 kilometers yesterday for the first time in my life!!!! \O/

Thank you so much. American Gods is a good book to re-read. There were many things I had forgotten, that I really enjoyed finding again. :)

I was surprised I was able to run the 10 km!! But it felt really good to do it. :D

Yay! American Gods fan art!

I hang around lj too much, when the first thing that pops into my head is "Hmmm. I could ship Shadow/Wednesday."

Yay 10km!

YAY! I was so happy to get this request for Shadow. And at the same time, I was like: but wth does he look like. For all those words in that book, there is precious little description of the main character. ;)

"Hmmm. I could ship Shadow/Wednesday." LOL! It has to be done. :D

And omg, 10 km! My present goal is to run a half marathon in April. And for it not to take all day. ;)

OMG yay 10 km! It has taken quite a while to get here, because I have trouble with my knee, so I have to go slowly, but I did it! :D

Your Shadow is very handsome! In my mind, he looked sort of like Trent Reznor-- who, I suppose, looks a lot line Neil Gaiman. :P

Your Shadow is very handsome!

Thank you! This is because I have a total crush on him. ;) I like your version of him too. And I get the impression that several of the lead characters in Mr Neil's books bare a more than passing ressemblance to their creator...

Ahaha! I love it. That scene cracks me up each time I read it since Shadow willingly goes with Wednesday's plan. And you've captured Wednesday's attire, lol, or the minor spectacle he makes of himself, really.

Thank you, bb. You are one of my favorite people in forever and the goodness between us is that I totally fell for you from the beginning and it's only been better since. You're mine forever, ♥.

Go runner you! That is excellent news and don't stop now. Those goals matter.

Yay! \O/ Thank you! I love that scene. Shadow has totally given up trying to guess what Wednesday is up to and answers that you think will upset Wednesday only make him really happy. :D

You're mine forever, ♥.

This is so. ♥

Yay! Thanks for the encouragement on running. I'm enjoying it, which I wouldn't have thought possible only a year ago.

Oh, nice! I like the "hunh?" sort of expression on Shadow's face. :)

American Gods is one of the books on my "should read that" list. I...should read that. Heh.

Congratulations on the 10km! That's about twice as far as I've ever tried to run -- go, you!!

Thank you! Yes, Shadow would have that expression a lot around Mr Wednesday.... You really should read it. I'm sure you would like it a lot, it's quite a fascinating tale.

And thanks again! I never ran before this year, so I'm setting new records all the time. This one feels like a real milestone though. :D

And congratulations on the distance. Go you :D

Thank you! Your comment means a lot - I love this scene so much, and I'm glad I represented it well. :D Re-read!! I enjoyed it so much.

And I'm really pleased with myself for making those 10 km. It really feels like an achievement. (and the next one, the half marathon, is still far in the future, so I better celebrate now!)

With this drawing and that snippet you've intrigued me into wanting to read that book. How cute are those two characters you drew! One sort of handsome and tall in his hoody and the other, well, a bit of a goof it seems. And, without having read the book, the words and lines seem a perfect pairing.

Oh that would be awesome, if you went and read the book because of my drawing! :D It really is a very good book, and Mr Wednesday may surprise you. I'm not sure Shadow has him completely figured out at this point, if he ever does. ;) Thank you so much - you always leave the nicest comments!

Aagh, I remember looking at this, trying to leave a comment which LJ promptly ate, saying a few choice words (oh pis, probably;)) and thinking I must come back and do this again. So it's a good job the Birthday Girl reminded me with her post as all the cough sweets have apparently destroyed my memory.

Anyway, as I once tried to say... You've got a great Shadow here: so big and nice and slow-looking at this moment, slouching, and rather clueless as to what's going on! And Mr Wednesday certainly looks a sight to behold, lol - I love how you've got the handcuffs on the case in there.

And 10 kilometers? Tadpole will be able to retire at this rate! That's very impressive.:D

oh pis, probably;)

LOL!

Thanks for coming back to leave a comment, that's so nice of you. Your words for Shadow make me very happy, because they are what I see when I think of him. And yay! You noticed the handcuffs.

Oh Tadpole doesn't have to worry. It took me an hour to run those kilometers - she is probably not capable of driving that slow. ;)

Man, I need to read American Gods. I find the stances a bit funny, but the clothes are so damn convincing. I understand that Gaiman is really big on combining the supernatural with the gritty in those novels? And the gritty comes through really well here.

Oh do read American Gods!!! I think it is a really great book, and Mr Neil's unique blend of the supernatural and the real world is novel, surprising and satisfying. :D

Mr Wednesday will crack you up until he doesn't anymore. ;)

I haven't gotten my hands on AG yet!!! I did pick up a discount copy of "Neverwhere," which I'm very much looking forward to... but I have yet to get the time for it. (Should I be looking forward to it? I didn't think there was a Gaiman title I hadn't at least heard of...)

Neverwhere is great - you can definitely look forward to it. (Just the title, omg. The brain on that man). But to be honest I don't think I have read anything by Mr Neil yet, that I didn't like.
