Lovely work!
I'm always impressed with your attention to the over-all composition and how natural your figures look. You can just feel how the pregnant character feels in the first one!

Thank you!

I have felt a sort of breakthrough with drawing figures lately, so it's really nice to hear you say that they look natural here! And I was very pleased with how Walburga turned out too!

The first one would make a wonderful fantasy book cover! ♥ I love how the adults have a giant-like, magical quality to them - you really can feel how heavily weighed-down Walburga is - whilst the children are so diminutive but are such personalities in their own right. Narcissa is such a perfect pretty little girl, how appropriate that Andromeda and Bellatrix are pulling and pushing at Orion in different directions, and how poignant is Sirius with his head on his mother's stomach? Most of all, I like Orion feeding the raven, and his outstretched arm and the twisting branches behind which makes me think we're seeing the Black family tree brought very vividly to life.

The second one is very hot indeed! I like how you've used the blue - makes me think of someone seeing through a drunken haze and everything taking on the same hue...

Oh thank you so much! ♥ I was not entirely happy with the the first one - it was nothing like what I had imagined it should be, but when I finally became able to look at it for what it was instead of what I thought it should be, I became more happy with it. Walburga is definitely one of the things I'm most pleased with. And I'm really glad you can read the personalities of every one else in their postures. It's one of the most challenging things to portray, and when it works? Those are the happy moments of creative works. :D

I loved using a limited palette for the second one, and the blue was a natural choice for evening and drunkenness. :)

Wow. That first one really blew me away. It's a great portrait of that whole family, but each character's personality comes through loud and clear. I also love that you used slightly different colors for each person. Brilliant!

The second one is interesting too, although I don't really have a feel for James and Regulus, lol. The blues are fascinating, aren't they...because at some point, they all sort of come together to make white.

Or something like that. What I know about art and color could be written on a grain of salt. ;)

What a lovely comment! Thank you so much. I love that you noticed the different colours for each of the Blacks. :D It was interesting to do the whole family and make sure their individual traits came through.

I have never drawn Regulus and James together before so I went with a scenario where they had not been together before either, so we could all feel our way towards the final product. lol! I loved using only the blues to define shape and space and I'm really happy with how it worked out too.

i really love your use of watercolor, the overall effect is really cool. and i love how you used the shadows to outline the figures in the second painting. and the use of just blue white and black. =)

Thank you so much. Putting darker colours around the figures really helps to make them stand out more, doesn't it? I love using watercolours, they are a lot of fun!
