I love this! He's so perfectly poised. And that vivid splash of red is the perfect touch. Thank you!

Thank you! I had a lot of fun imagining all of him that you can't see in this painting - and I really like the red too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

The cropping, the expression in the hand, the muscles in the arm, the implied movement...

The 'broken' lines in this add a nice touch to this---not sure how to explain but it works!

Thank you so much!! Drawing hands used to scare me like nobody's business, but I have always loved how much expression there is in them, so I stuck with them. Still some way to go, but I'm so happy you see it here. :D

And line-weight, broken lines etc are also all something I'm very much into. It worked well in places in this piece, which made me very happy!

LOL!

I only wish now that this painting wasn't done on a small piece of leftover paper... Might have been fun to frame and hang. ;)

that is a truly cool thumb.

from this small glimpse, i don't trust him at all. he ripped off his shirt sleeve and wrapped it about his wrist. clearly he is unscrupulous.

there's sense of movement in this and i'm not sure what's causing that. maybe the balancing card.

The thumb is my favourite part too! Does it remind you of anyone? ;)

I think he is very untrustworthy. Look at that smirk, and you are right that treating his clothes so oddly, is also a sign that something is wrong...

Thank you for stopping by, bb!

Ooh, he's lovely. And a knave. And what a throat!

*swoons*

Reminds me a little of Gambit, from the X-Men. But handsomer. ;)

Oh thank you so much! He is lovely, but be careful of his knavish tendencies. ;)

Yes, Gambit - I thought about him as well when I was drawing this. I was a big fan of him back when I read those comics.

Thank you! Yes, handy hand is handy. That makes me very happy and please. :D

The muscles are Boyfriend Faxe's favourite part. He thinks I was sneakily drawing him.

This is really engaging! I like the left/right balance and they way you used to the red to break the tie. And there's a lot of tension in that card. I also like the way you shaded the arm. Very nicely done. I need to remind myself to use unusual aspect ratios like this more often.

Ahhh, figure drawing again this morning! We started with 1 min warm-ups. (He said he was being kind not to give us 30 seconds since we're newbies.) I'd've been more gobsmacked if you hadn't warned me, lol. I felt like I was in an artistic slump this morning, but I came away with a decent pose or two.

Oh thank you! What wonderful feedback. This is exactly 1 to 3 ratio and I love both the horizontal and vertical versions. They are a challenge regarding composition, and I'm so happy you think it works here. (Regarding the shading, and another reason I love watercolour, the pale pink shading and the violent red armband are the exact same colour, only with very different amounts of water in them ;))

Oh! I'm glad you had warning beforehand!! lol! And I know all about being in a slump - but it's nearly always worth it to keep going. :)

I hadn't realized that, but that's a great way to harmonize.

Yeah, I agree, it's great to be forced to draw even when you're feeling 'off'. Otherwise, I'd have lolled about this morning. ; )

OMG, I'm so glad [livejournal.com profile] jobey_in_error mentioned this in the pulped discussion - it's Wow-worthy! I couldn't understand how I missed it, but looking at the date we were away then and I must have skipped by it when trying to catch up with the f-list.

Anyway... Love the strength and muscles in that hand, the strength in that throat and those sexy splayed fingers. Plus his obvious delight in his own cleverness, lol. Lots of stroies about him flooding my brain right now.

How are you?

Thank you for looking over here, and leaving such a nice comment. This is still one of my own favourites, and I sometimes forget how I did it, or even thogught of it... Do you ever get that feeling with older pieces?

I'm ok. Just got back to Burkina after spending the holidays in Denmark, and I'm pretty exhausted from the travel. So work is going to feel really long today... How are you?

With regards to dinner, it is fortunate that Mr. G likes his chicken well done. ;)

This is still one of my own favourites, and I sometimes forget how I did it, or even thogught of it... Do you ever get that feeling with older pieces?

Definitely. I rarely re-read stories once they're posted, and when I get reviews on the really old ones, especially those that didn't get many in the first place, I have to stop and think what it was all about, let alone what I was thinking about the characters at the time. Those early ones are nearly six years old, and there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then. Or a lot of intentional memory loss by the author.

How are you?

Okay, thanks. Lots of ill health in the family, so the hols were a bit chaotic, but I'm trying to write like a mad thing whenever I can and not get too diverted by LJ. Famous last words!
