Finally posting day is here! :D This is my first time doing art for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang and I've had a lot of fun with [livejournal.com profile] janie_tangerine's awesome western AU: The two faces of vengeance. So many excuses for painting cowboy hats and horses.

Read the story here (Seriously. Read it. Dean and Cas in a spaghetti western. Read.)

Paintings:
Media: Watercolour and pencil (ink in one case)
Rating: PG
Only slight spoilers for the story.

Thank you to Janie for a great story to work with, and also to [livejournal.com profile] wendy and [livejournal.com profile] highwaywoman for running a smooth and fun Big Bang.

Oh thank you so much! They were all a lot of fun to do, but especially the horses and the gun was new territory illustration wise, so I'm glad you like them!

oh lj...

These are all beautiful, but I really like the motion in the second picture-especially the mud splatters and the tail. The one with the gun is really lovely, too-it's just got an atmosphere around it (still, quiet-but with a lot of potential energy).

Good job!

Thank you. I'm really happy with the movement in the second picture too, it's always hard to capture. And I love that the gun one tells you a story, even though it is very quiet and still. Thanks!

So I don't even watch SPN but these are GLORIOUS. I love the way you've contrasted scenes of motion with a real sense of stillness through the washes and then the sharper details. There's something really evocative of Westerns about that - makes me think of dirt stirring up and people emmerging from it.

Beautiful ♥. I'm so glad you got them finished on time :D.

Thank you! I'm glad you can still get something from them even though you don't know SPN (to be fair it is completely AU, so anyone should be able to walk in here ;)). Also really freaking happy that you get a sense of Western from these. :)

Thank you so much for holding hands and providing encouragement! ♥

Every single pic here is so impressive, and the second pic is my favorite. The way you drew the movement and gestures amazes me! :D Great work!

I just wanted to leave it here even if I told you already - these are just so freaking gorgeous and I love them to pieces. I don't know if I said that in the first e-mail but if I didn't, I just love how you colored the paintings. It just fits the atmosphere a lot. And I'm still totally in love with the last one a whole damn lot (just a bit more than the others though ;) ). These are totally gorgeous. ♥ *loves*

I'm so so happy you like them! It was a lot of fun illustrating your story. And I did pick a very dusty colour palette, because it felt right for a western, so I'm glad it worked. :D Thank you for leaving your thoughts here as well! ♥

Wow, beautiful. Watercolours can be so tricky (I've heard) but you've done a great job. I love the colour palette you've chosen. It makes it seem kind of 'western-y'. =]

These are so gorgeous. I love the way the color palette ties them all together -- the browns and blues really say "cowboy" to me! I'm especially struck by the sense of motion in the second one, and then the last one, wow -- gorgeous light and shadows and colors, and those fingers tell a story all by themselves.

Congratulations on getting so much wonderful art finished for this!

Thank you! I was concerned with keeping the colour palette fairly restrained to make the images seem like a unit, so I'm glad that worked! :D The last one was the final image I made, and I'm so glad I made the time to get it done, because I'm quite pleased with it as well. :)

Thank you again, and also for cheerleading along the way. :D

These have already been called gorgeous and glorious and they really are both. I'm sure you knew I'd love the horses - of course you understand how horses move, and the idea of flight in that second picture is emphasised by the angle of horse and rider, only one hind leg propelling them forward as the others are airborne - and then the third one, the always essential Western shot: man and horse moving quietly along together.

The colours seem exactly right as this world is all about light and dust, and the close up of the hands on the gun is so lovely and still. These really do all tell a story by themselves.

Btw, I've decided you do manes and tails every bit as well as human hair!:D

Oh thank you! As I said elsewhere I did do the horse and the mule with you in mind, the manes and tails as well. ;) And I'm really happy that the sense of motion came through in the second one because I just love the sight of horses moving. :D

It's great when you can imagine a story behind the pictures, that's what makes me happiest! Thank you again.

I love that you captured motion in the second picture, using watercolor, too! In fact, I love that you used watercolor as a medium. After reading the fic, I expected the art to be in bold colors, but the watercolors are a lovely surprise! I love how subtle your coloring is, especially the last pic, where Cas is taking care of Dean's wounds.

I notice that I used the word "love" far too many times in this comment. I DON'T CARE. Your art is awesome :D
