First week in the country
Aug. 12th, 2007 08:06 pmFor those on the flist who don't know yet I'm currently taking care of my aunt's farm. She is away with her family on holiday for two weeks, and I'm staying in her house in the country looking after all the animals. There are 56 sheep, and one ram, a cat, a parrot, 6 roosters, 6 hens, 9 chickens, and 8 horses!! Now the first week here in the country has passed, and I feel like producing a list of the happenings!
It's certainly not boring, living in the country!
1 bite from overexcited cat
3 conversations with parrot consisting of saying "hej, Coco" or just making nonsensical noises...
3 escapes by sheep
3 captures of sheep consisting of luring sheep back into their pen by rattling a bucket with a handful of corn in
1 flooded wellington when attempting to lure horses back from their grazing
1 sunburn on my back shaped after the places I couldn't reach to put sunscreen on
1 sick lamb, who is to weak to walk, but who hangs on to life..
2 visits by veterinarian to check said lamb + lamb who faked illness!
1 huge bill from veterinarian
10 stools samples collected from sheep, to see if anyone else was sick................... (which they weren't, thank god!)
1 escaped ram!
1 nervous housekeeper who was told by her aunt to just take the ram by the neck and force his head away from her if he tried to ram her - weigt-difference: housekeeper 60 kg vs ram 200 kg!
1 ram guided into the stables by sticking his head in a bucket and walking him there
1.000.000 pets on horse noses
1 boyfriend falling from galloping horse
10 sketches of horses with horse-snot on them
Innumerable skratches on arms from carrying hay to horses
And probably a whole lot more that I have already forgotten! :)

Date: 2007-08-13 12:52 am (UTC)Parrots are so funny when they talk--there were some macaws at a pet shop I used to work at, and when I was cleaning out the bird breeding room, they'd call out, "Hello!" and try to get my attention every few minutes. Hee...

Date: 2007-08-13 07:24 am (UTC)The parrot is in the living room, but I can hear it from my bedroom, and when she thinks it's time to get up, she will start using her entire arsenal of words.. I can't imagine how much noise there must have been in a bird breeding room!

Date: 2007-08-13 07:26 am (UTC)Why is a flooded welly one of the most uncomfortable things ever? ;)

Date: 2007-08-13 08:10 am (UTC)A welly flooded with muddy water is one of the most disgusting experiences ever! No wonder the horses were reluctant to wade through that patch of the field..
