So I was still down with the cold for the first few days of the week, and worked from home as much as I could, for my own comfort as well as my coworkers... This means that not a lot got done until around Thursday, lol.

Still managed two workouts, and beneath the cut is this week's sketchbook painting, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] heartofoshun's suggestion of doing a retelling of "Princess and the Pea". It's not exactly a retelling, but more a continuation I suppose. :D

The fairytale ends like this: "As for the pea, they put it in the museum. There it's still to be seen, unless somebody has taken it." And I just thought, what are the odds that a princess-divining pea would be safe in a museum?? ;)

So here is the whole page:

I painted the background blue and yellow first and fitted the action around that composition, which was fun. Then added more dark color to make the action stand out. (and some white gel pen, that did not run as smoothly as I would have liked!)

Closer-ups of both pages:

Wow! I love this! You are setting quite the high bar for yourself with your weekly work.

The act of theft--the justice of it--committed with such lightness and grace: this work is not only beautiful but such a meaningful reinterpretation of a familiar tale.

Thank you!! Yes to the high bar, and I certainly think there will be weeks when it does not look this finished! But I also think that this was why the daily drawing wasn't working for me, unless I had a bigger project to work on little by little. Those unfinished sketches that were not contributing to something else, did not motivate me.

The size of the sketchbook and the 7 days to come up with something and paint it, seems to be a good combination so far.

Btw, I also got a nice sense of justice by allowing a strong, athletic woman to steal that stupid pea! :D

The work itself is simply beautiful and awesomely done, but I really do love the idea you've had for this. Great job!
