Picspam from the North!
Oct. 9th, 2007 10:49 pmI have arrived safely here in Greenland, and am enjoying it very much! The weather has been extremely good, except for one day, and I was too busy being enthousiastic about how the ravens were gliding on the storm to be upset about it. :)
Anyway, I thought I would upload some pictures for you, since I'm transferring from my camera.
Here is a photo from the airplane as we were crossing the ice cape covering the entire inland. Impressive to look at ice for more than an hour from the air, doing more than 900 km/hour.
From the day with the bad weather... Still nice, eh?
This is the mountain that dominates the island - it is called Uummannaq meaning mountain shaped like a heart.
This is Uummannaq city, in all 1500 people live here.
The view from the window towards Storøen (the big island). The storm from the second day blew a lot of icebergs towards us. :D
This is from today when I went walking on the island. The little house is where Santa Claus lives in the summer. (And I have even seen this on tv, so it is irrefutable! ;))
Two of the six sleigh dogs my friends have. These are called Kajo [Gayo](yellow or brown in Greenlandish) and Arthur (as in the legend). My friends have spoiled their dogs, so they are a little fat and extremely fond of being petted.
And a beautiful sunset. Btw, we went walking last night and the stars were sooo clear, and the northern lights (aurea borealis) were dancing across the sky..
That's it for now. My friend is trying to arrange for me to go sailing with a local - I hope she succeeds, that could be great.
