I became aware that I never posted the two last pieces I did for [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon here on my own journal! So without further ado please find:

Title: Choir
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] hrymfaxe
Rating & Warnings: G and None
Prompt: Choir
Medium: Watercolour
Summary: After beating a retreat into the choir of a church Tonks and Remus disagree on their future strategy...
Artist's Notes: Two challenges here for me: the extreme perspective and creating texture and values with watercolour. This is not what I had decided on doing for this challenge, though it was an initial idea. But I fell ill and was unable to complete the other project. Thank merlin for back-up plans. ;)

Title: Fugitives
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] hrymfaxe
Rating & Warnings: PG13, for post fighting clean-up, nothing graphic.
Prompts:

I awake to see that no-one is free
We're all fugitives
Look at the way we live
Down here, I cannot sleep form fear, no

"Spies" by Coldplay

And "summer ball"

Medium: Watercolour and ink
Summary: What should have been a fun day, ends in weariness and doubt.
Artist's Notes: Still playing with watercolours. And backgrounds. Please bear with me.

And I submitted a few of the latest art pieces I've done for this great idea:

It's a fest of sorts, where artist submit art as prompts for writers to write stories to and vice versa. :D So if you have a story or a drawing that you would like to see illustrated or ficcified get ye over there! I already see a few stories that are very inspiring.

Thank you for looking, even though it isn't your fandom. :D Drawing that church was really hard for me since I was only just getting started doing backgrounds in general, and architecture is even more frightening than those... So I'm really happy it works for you!

It very much does! There's a real sense of immense height there, I feel as though I'm staring up into the disappearing vaults of a real cathedral.

Have I told you lately that the watercolors love you, girl? Yep, they do.

Great take on the perspective. Actually, it sort of makes my head spin, which is good :)

I ♥ the watercolours too. :D It makes me happy that it is not an unrequited relationship. ;)

Thank you for taking a look at these! And for telling me the perspective made your head spin. I hope it wasn't entirely from the flu. ;)

These are great!
You've done a wonderful job with the perspective and showing the textures---it has such a great balance between the angular scene at the top of the picture and the softness of the scene at the bottom.
The second picture is likewise very well composed and your background looks awesome. Love the details that you've added---the flowers, the reflections, the emphasis given with the ink.

I'll have to check out the hp_art_tales---I'd love to play but not sure I can commit to the time... :(

Thank you so much for looking and for leaving such a detailed comment! Since I started including backgrounds in my paintings, composition has obviously become very important, so it means a lot that you think it works. :) And textures are so much fun to play with when doing watercolours! I also love doing the little extra details, so I'm glad you liked them too. :D

As for hp_art_tales, there is no requirement that you take a prompt even if you submit them. It's very relaxed (which means there is also no guarantee that anyone will do anything for the prompts you leave. ;))

As for hp_art_tales
I'd love to participate---the only HP art I have at the moment are the two pieces I did for [livejournal.com profile] fandomfusion---the firelit profiles of Dumbledore and Harry. Can I post those? I haven't really done scenes...

There is a lot of ambience in those two portraits! They don't need scenes to make you wonder what has come before or after. If you'd like to participate with prompts, I think they would make wonderful inspiration!

I’m so happy I’ve friended you just in time, so that these startling, beautiful paintings are the first thing I find in my flist tonight.

It’s hard to believe that you were just getting started with backgrounds and that you find architecture so frightening. The church is amazing. Its structure looks completely right to me, and more: real, or super-real with that wonderful light. And the two tiny figures’ poses are incredibly expressive. The space is definitely enormous, as your Remus is far from a frail boy!

I love his toughness in the other picture, and the contrast between him and Tonks, as well as between them and the lovely nature. The details, like her broken heel. Above all, the way he’s tying his bandage.

I'm happy we are friends too, so I get the pleasure of receiving such a wonderful comment. Thank you!

I'm always too ambitious for my own good, which makes me not the world's most productive artist, as there are usual several aspects of any given painting that I need to learn about from scratch. But I'm really happy that the time and study I put into these are paying off!

I really like how tough Remus is in the second picture too - and definitely how he is all serious business about tying his bandage. And I'm glad you noticed the details too.

Hrym, these are just fabulous! As someone who once dabbled in watercolors (back during my checkered undergrad studies when I did my stint as an architecture major), I am seriously impressed by your talent. Especially the church -- just excellent.

And having read 4 of the HP volumes, I can appreciate the fandom element, too. :^)

Thank you so much! I didn't know you had painted with watercolour too. I really love the medium - there are so many different ways to work with them, that I don't think I'll ever tire of learning new things. (and I'm glad you like the church - I think of you and your stint in architecture everytime I do buildings. ;)

Well, I've already spilled the beans--I think your vaulted ceiling is gorgeous here. Do you feel you succeeded with value and texture then? Because it sure looks like it! You gave such a nice sense of space and light.

I had to draw a vaulted ceiling once for class--from example, not imagination--and it felt mucho hard, so I'm all the more impressed.

I'm eyeing up that art/fic challenge. Hmmm, a few too many pots on the burner at the 'mo. Your Lily and Sirius watercolor is tempting though, I must admit. Two of my three favorite characters.

Thank you! And yes, I'm quite happy with the results. Especially the texture. Now, if I could only remember how I did it. ;)

Wow! Your drawing is gorgeous!! I really should do some studies like that - it would make the process of making things up from scratch a lot easier (and more informed ;))

Hmmm, a few too many pots on the burner at the 'mo.

I know what you mean! There are a few fics there that are so so tempting, but we'll see what life looks like come December. Lily and Sirius would love it if you wrote something for them, though! ;)

Aw, thanks. : ) I do alright from physical example, but drawing from imagination is harder for me. And shading gives me the fits!

And fortunately you're around to regal me with watercolors because that's a medium I've always admired from afar. I have fooled around with gouache, but it's not the same. Being opaque, I don't think it's as pretty! ; )

I'll keep Lily and Sirius in mind next time I'm musing. : )

Let me qualify the drawing from imagination thing - I think up the scene I want, the scene that best tell the story I'm trying to get across, and then I find reference photos to help me out. ;) Of course it's hard to get exactly the subjects and angles I want, so I have to fill that out, but it isn't all on my head. :D

Watercolours are gorgeous, and you are right that it is the transparency of them that is the main attraction. I have sometimes seen them mixed with gouache, which can produce awesome results.

I'll keep Lily and Sirius in mind next time I'm musing. : )

Let me qualify...reference photos to help me out.

Oh, I'm becoming more aware that everyone does that. : ) Works to great effect! Imagining the scene seems like the cool part.

Gouache and watercolor, I'd've never thought of that...

Gouache and watercolor, I'd've never thought of that...

I have an artist on my flist who does it a lot. Here is an example. I think I read somewhere that she does it because too many layers of watercolour will create was essentially look like mud. Applying a thin wash of gouache gives you the strong colour you need without picking up the washes underneath. Or something to that effect. ;)

Whoa. That cathedral knocked me out. It totally dwarfs Tonks & Remus, yet despite how small they are you can see how fierce and determined they are too. It's a great contrast to the serenity and detached hugeness of the cathedral.

And I swear I've commented on "Fugitives" before. I love the bright colors matched with the serious situation. And it bespeaks a whole lot of situation to me. I really want the story that goes with it!

I really love revisiting these pictures - especially the cathedral one. It makes me want to do more with extreme perspectives. :)

And it makes me so happy when my art manages to hint at a larger story!
